Not the best option, unless you really like the Kagerou playstyle or want an IJN DD trainer. She has the option to trade out her smokescreen for a torpedo reload booster, which is actually quite nice to dump 16 torpedoes in the water.
The best option is the 100mm guns, with their increased pen, fast reload, fast traverse, and dual-purpose AA to have at least a small chance of dissuading enemy CVs. She has access to six of Akizuki's 100mm guns, three of Midway's 127mm secondary guns, and the basic set of IJN 127mm guns seen on Kagerou. Harekaze first (So you know what you're missing): Kagerou hull, torpedoes, and performance with access to different weapons systems and a flat grey(!) premium camouflage. I own Kidd, Loyang, Orkan, and Harekaze, so I'll speak on those. There's a reason why my base xp record is on the Cossack. If that isn't overpowered, I don't know what is. You have great arcs to shoot over islands with good positioning, a great utility smoke for farming damage, disengaging, or stopping the CV's strikes, and you can speed juke with engine boost on top of British acceleration.
How many of those exist? How many DDs have 10km torps at T8, even? Outside of the various IJN T8s, the only ones that come to mind are Ognevoi, Orkan and Oland.īUT, you completely out DPM every single other T8 DD with HE (except Akizuki), and outspot almost all of them. You have to play more in gunboat mode as you don't have the same facility to drop BBs in a single strike that other DDs have.Ĭossack is a gunboat and cap contester with actually usable torps at tier 8. I think it's because of the low torp alpha + aforementioned firing arcs. Besides the "is this thing on" level AA, the only real downsides I can think of is the slow speed and lousy torp arcs typical of the RN DDs. I've often wondered why I don't enjoy Cossack as much as, on paper, I should.
