We did not find a specific mention of a trial period at the author site, the software did not appear to be crippled in any way as far as features, but it will not allow you to save an image until registered. Inpaint is Freemium however, it is still worth it even at the $19.99 price tag. Inpaint will help you remove and retouch this area, creating a complete image with no black gaps.
